Judith’s Restaurant Tip

Judith’s restaurant tip

This section was born from the fact that my guests very often ask me for a restaurant recommendation.

Today I am introducing the Hobenköök:

In 2018 the Hobenköök dropped anchor in the creative Oberhafen quarter in HafenCity, with a unique combination of market hall, restaurant and catering. The trio of Thomas, Nele and Frank have made regional and seasonal produce their culinary banner. True to the motto “holistic, pure, surprising”, guests can shop for food across 600 square metres or enjoy it right on the spot. So if you want to know exactly where your food comes from, the “Hobenköök” – Low German for “harbour kitchen” – is just the place.

Delicious food from the north paired with a Big Apple feeling.

So, enjoy your meal – or as they say in Low German: “Laat jo nich lang nödigen” (don’t wait to be asked twice).

In the north-east of HafenCity, our youngest district, between the Deichtorhallen and the wholesale market, lies the Oberhafen quarter.
Once used as a freight yard and as a storage and logistics centre, the area has long since blossomed into a cultural and creative hotspot in the heart of Hamburg.
Its main artery is Stockmeyerstraße. The first time I strolled along it, my artist’s heart immediately felt at home.
Warehouse after warehouse lines the street, and its rough charm recalls the artists’ enclaves of DUMBO or the Meatpacking District in New York.

Numerous studios and galleries have settled in the old industrial and commercial area.
Artists, designers, photographers and musicians all gather here.

Anyone who likes industrial charm paired with harbour history will feel right at home here.
