Music Is in the Air

On this stroll we meet great figures of music, such as
Johannes Brahms – a son of Hamburg, a character full of contradictions and a unique talent. On my tour we get to know him a little better and ask why he turned his back on his home town and never came back.
Where did he live? Where did he play? Where stood the first public opera house – and where does the music play today? We pass by venues of the past and present.
Some of Brahms’s musical companions we then meet in
the most harmonious and beautiful “senior flat-share” in all of Hamburg: the Composers’ Quarter in Hamburg’s Neustadt. Here seven great musicians live side by side in perfect harmony. Which ones? How did they live, what moved them, which quirks and peculiarities defined them?
To delve deeper into the lives and work of the musicians, I recommend a visit to the museum.
Admission is 9 euros.
Our walk ends at the most beautiful and largest Baroque church in northern Germany: St. Michael’s Church, simply called “Michel” by the people of Hamburg.
